Stephen
Eckdish: Is
a San Francisco criminal defense attorney and U.S. immigration lawyer
who has successfully defended thousands of clients in the San Francisco
Bay Area, including San Mateo County, Marin County, Alameda County,
Santa Clara, Contra Costa and throughout northern California.
Immigration Law: I routinely and successfully
represent clients who wish to become lawful permanent residents but have
overstayed and are consequently out of status, those who have sustained
misdemeanor or felony convictions, and those who are in removal/deportation
proceedings.
Immigration Lawyer and Criminal Defense: Practicing in San Francisco since 1980. As a U.S. immigration lawyer
and criminal defense attorney, I defend non-citizens in the immigration
courts in removal (deportation) hearings and in the California criminal
courts. In defending non-citizens in criminal actions, I emphasize avoiding
convictions which may have immigration consequences or prevent adjustment
of status or result in deportation.
Removal
and Deportation
- Post Conviction Relief: I
attack criminal convictions in the criminal
courts which form the basis for deportation in removal proceedings and
which may prevent cancellation
of removal for permanent and non-permanent residents.
- I
file waivers against excludability,
inadmissibility and deportability such as the recently revived suspension
of deportation under section 212(c)
of the I.N.A. for relief from aggravated felony
convictions which occurred before April, 1996 and utilize the 212(i)
and 212(h) waivers
for those who have committed fraud, made material misrepresentations
or been convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude.
- Filing for adjustment
of status to permanent residency: Emphasizing
the handling difficult adjustment cases where my clients have overstayed
and are out of status, or have sustained criminal conviction(s), or
are in removal proceedings seeking relief from deportation.
- Filing applications for
Asylum, Withholding of Removal and Convention Against Torture (C.A.T.):
Relief in removal proceedings from deportation for those seeking protections
against well founded fears of persecution or torture in their home countries
and, where none of these remedies are available, Voluntary Departure.
Criminal Defense: I emphasize defending all
classes of serious felonies including, but not limited to, 'three strikes'
prosecutions, drug crimes, sex offenses, violent felonies, domestic violence
and DUI cases.
Criminal Defense and Immigration Practice: I represent both
U.S. citizens and non-citizens in both the criminal and immigrations courts,
featuring post conviction relief and expungement
of criminal convictions for employment concerns.
Personal Injury: I emphasize aggressively prosecuting
law suits for victims who have sustained serious injuries arising from
automobile accidents.
